  1. How can you look at this and not smile? These two appear to have not a care in the world.

  2. It looks as though the Hat Fair had a a dry day this year.

Apart from their sheer joi-de-vivre there is also a sensuous feel to this. The composition works well too with the lines from the fingers leading through the two heads down to the violin (plugged in).

Certainly getting in so close helps with giving a real feeling of involvement in the activity. A fun shot all round.

  3. Chanteuses?

Nicely captured gestures & sense of enjoyment.
Minor quibble – I think I’d prefer the two equally focussed (in or out).

  4. I’ve looked at this a couple of times and have only now focussed on the text. A Hat Fair???

The photo gets across the clowning around, but that hand needs to be sharp. Oddly, I’m not so concerned about the second face.

  5. “…but that hand needs to be sharp…” – says who? It would make no sense for the hand to be sharp and the head soft – says me!

  6. A delightful scene — rich in color, feeling and detail. I’d like a sound file to play while viewing this. ;-)

I have no problem with the depth of field as it is. I might wish for a bit more image on the left compositionally.

  7. I’d disagree with Christina on the composition. I’m finding the tight framing works much stronger here and if any more space was needed I’d be looking for it along the top. However, I’m not really feeling the full emotion of the performance – the right eye of the red-hatted lady seems to be causing that. I’d also like a little less glint from her nose-ring. I’m also happy for some reason that the front girl is wearing sunglasses…though I really cannot explain why!

  8. Akikana – my guess with the sunglasses is that you (and I) could suspect that her eyes are closed as well and therefore both the girls in that state wouldn’t be so good: the sunglasses remove that (potential) problem and also add an extra dimension through the reflection. How’s that?

  9. John – pretty much sums up my thinking!
