No Relief in Split

I did think of calling this No Fun in Split.

  1. I can imagine your delight at finding this. Makes me smile to think of that even more than I did on seeing the image. Funny — and well composed.

As a graphic designer, I’m impressed with the effectiveness of that simple design. ;-)

  2. The graphic design is excellent – the subject matter obviously merited extra special attention. It’s a pity the council had it placed on what has more than a passing resemblance to the frontage of a portakabin.

It’s a pity that otherwise the place looks so clean and tidy as there is no clue as to how the place suffers from would-be offenders. Try Cuzco for a couple of side streets where not only is there the aftermath in kind and smell but practitioners can be spotted after overconsumption of chicha.

  3. It is a good graphic.

At first I wondered if you had missed making best use of it. I wanted everything to line up more neatly. However, I’ve decided that you’ve captured the quality of having just walked around the corner and having seen this. A more formal and studied composition wouldn’t work as well.

  4. I’m with Colin on the “found” aspect of the composition – brings out a sense of glancing down the passage and noticing the obvious humour of the sign.

  5. This was passed by and then the humour struck me so I took a few steps back to capture this.

  6. When this first started to appear through my RSS reader I got worried about how bright that ‘sky’ was. But I should not have been too worried as the brightness of the whole brings this out quite nicely. Interesting the arc of the passageway and the arc of the ‘flow’. With all the straight lines those curves soften everything. It comes over as being a spontaneous shot rather than posed – which certainly ties in with your comment on passing it by.
