Balls (Just Now)

Bournemouth Bowling Club, Friday lunch time venue.

  1. For an abstract photo, this is rather cheery, fitting for the ‘Just Now’ series.

    Lawn bowls?

  2. One bloodshot eye!

It’s nicely quirky photo that against all odds is successful. The feel of the grass and the kerb is particularly strong.

  3. Hah — I see that face with one red eye, too! I really like the way this is so very crisp and textural, — every item obvious as to just what it is — yet it’s still abstract in feeling. Nicely done.

  4. Can’t better what John said. Everything is obvious, but the result isn’t.

That light is a bit crunchy though. However, if I’d have done this you’d have said that my presentation/contrast was flat :-)

  5. ‘Everything is obvious but the result isn’t’ – Colin

That sums it up for me. I keep looking at it because it’s more than the sum of its parts, but I haven’t quite worked out what yet.

  6. What’s not to like? Everything in its place and serving its purpose. Even the dried grass stalk coming out of the red ball seems natural. Delightful.

  7. strong colours. Bright strong light.

I see this as 2 pictures split by the line of the concrete. I do wonder what 2 golf balls are doing at a bowls club.

The picture does not grab me, it may be the spaces around those golf balls.

I guess they use them as jacks? It was not a match, they were practicing. I don’t know what the stick is used for either.

  9. I wondered the same about the golf balls.

Just the king of strong graphic I like. I also like the extra detail from the stalk and leaf towards the top of the image.
