  1. Really interesting shot, particularly for someone planning a family like I am. The baby portrait is the “idealised child”, while the husband is on his knees dealing with the real thing which I am sure is not nearly so happy and smiley! In the window the idealised mother and father look on at their less than perfect simalcrums. This made me think. Thanks for posting!

  2. I was wondering if Christina would post a comment about your red?

The triangle of gazes is the main interest to me.

  3. striking hair.
The idealised family is an interesting idea Antony, quite sure I’ve ever met one. You have made me see this a bit differently. There is quite a difference between the advertised family in media and the real thing, but then adverts work by always showing you what they want you to aspire to, not what is really out there.

The criss cross of eyes is a strong point here, including the mothers and fathers even so you cannot see their faces.

An interesting picture with good framing.

  4. Well, of course I would have to comment on John’s signature reds — and like that even the onlooking storefront models are trying to work that theme. Their hair is no match for the main subject’s though!

Excellent framing, as has been mentioned, and of course the ideal baby face just above the unseen baby is perfect. I’m having trouble seeing the kneeling figure as the father. He seems small — I took it to be an older child, but perhaps that is just due to foreshortening.

  5. Robert – red hair has been a fashion here (out in Wales at least) for a year or two.

Christina – I can’t remember the family line-up am not sure whether it is the father or not. I agree that he looks a bit small but then he also looks a bit large for a child from that woman.

  6. I can’t figure out why this works but it does. Unusual for the main subject to face away quite like that.
Why is the folio so interesting? I wonder, is that a proof after a trip to the local photos studio?
