  1. Strange: on first looking, I thought that there wasn’t much in this but it is deceptive. Despite knowing that it is an old relic that may not even be afloat, the composition and colouring seem to achieve something out of not much.

  2. Better times? As in “seen better times”, or perhaps alluding to better times. My interpretation is the former, the clouds help in this regard.

  4. The treatment, tone, sky and structure all add up to make this look a rather dilapidated attraction.
    Was it clinging on to life or had it ceased trading? The barriers in the front don’t make it look very inviting.
    If the brief was to take an inviting picture of a museum and coffee shop for their brochure, I think you failed! :-)

  5. It was very dilapidated, to the extent that I wasn’t sure if it would open later in the day or not. It could just as easily have closed its doors 10 or more years ago and the hull been left to rot by the pier.
