  1. That’s a dark image. The subject and the treatment go together very well. My imagination is painting in the dark bits.

    • Yes it is isn’t Rex. It was taken down the mine (or rather the “drift”) at Beamish open air (chuckle) museum. The effect, if you want to call it that, is produced by exposing for the highlights caused by some artificial lighting hidden behind an opaque baffle. The faint glow, somewhere near where you might expect to see his left knee, is a Davy lamp. All the lighting they would have had down there was one of these each.
